Welcome to Marita Macedonia!
The Marita foundation was established in 1984 by Liev O. Holstad in Oslo,
Norway. The aim of the foundation is to prevent youth from even experimenting
with drugs which inevitably leads to further drug usage, and to help those who
are already misusing drugs to get a new meaningful life without drugs.
To achieve this goal, the Marita Foundation is engaged in a number of activities
of a preventative and rehabilitating nature.
The name "Marita" came out of the first documentary film on drug abuse, which
Holstad produced in 1983. Hans-Inge Fagervik wrote the song "Farvel, Marita"
("Goodbye, Marita"), about a young Norwegian girl who lost her life to drugs.
The song became the title song of the movie and when the foundation was
established, the choice of name fell to Marita.
